The fruits of all our labour
Here at our campus, we don’t just teach: we research. We throw ourselves into projects that leave us older, greyer, and hopefully wiser. We have celebrated a number of important research milestones this year, which has made all the hours we’ve worked even more meaningful.
For starters: did you know that we won a research grant from the Mauritius Research Council? If you’ve been keeping up with us (and we sure hope you have), then you’ll be happy to know that the project for which the grant was awarded is now complete. ‘Towards Graduate Work-Readiness in Mauritius: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach’ is the name of the research project led by Dr Sarita Hardin-Ramanan, Mrs. Odylle Charoux, Ms. Loga Ballasoupramanien, Dr. Shafiiq Gopee and Mr. Vikash Rowtho. You’ll find the results of their hard work in a chapter called ‘Graduate Work-Readiness Challenges in Mauritius’ in The Transition from Graduation to Work: Challenges and Strategies in the Twenty-First Century Asia Pacific and Beyond.
We’d recommend that you take a look at it: the chapter provides important insights into the Mauritian educational system and what can be done to improve students’ work-readiness. Commenting on their findings, Dr. Hardin-Ramanan notes: “We’ve found that quite a number of different stakeholder initiatives have been implemented to boost Graduate Work Readiness, and that in general, stakeholders understand that they have an important role to play in addressing the issue of graduate employability. However, the links between universities, government and employers have to be stronger. We’ve made some recommendations in that respect.”
In a similar vein, six of our academics are currently taking part in a study led by RMIT University in collaboration with researchers across the Asia Pacific, called ‘The Fourth Industrial Revolution and The Future of Work: Perspectives of Managers and Leaders in the Asia Pacific and Beyond’.
And finally – a number of our academics also had papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Congratulations, everyone!
