Young Persons’ Plan for the Planet
We hosted the first-ever Young Persons’ Plan for the Planet Project on the 30th of November, in collaboration with other Mauritian institutions.
The Project saw 120 Australian and Mauritian secondary school students working together to develop the first International Plan for the Planet with respect to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They also identified potential implementation projects in Mauritius, Australia and elsewhere.
During the full-day conference held at CTC, the delegates learned how the UN’s goals could be addressed using management principles and the ways in which their plans could be turned into actions based on Curtin University’s ‘Balance the Planet’ programme, which was also launched on that day.
‘Balance the Planet’ is a challenge-based digital learning programme which aims to provide young adults with opportunities to develop viable solutions to the world’s greatest sustainability problems.
The students listened and met illustrious scientists and academics present that day, from Nobel-prize winner Professor Brian Schmidt to Professor David Gibson, Director of Learning Futures at Curtin University in Australia and UNESCO Chair of Data Science in Higher Education Learning and Teaching. Professor Gibson stated that “the partnership with Curtin Mauritius acts as a platform that enables young people to learn about the SDG’s and to collaborate effectively with their peers in taking care of their communities”.
