TEC Scrutiny Panel inspects us February 2008

In February 2007, CTI submitted a formal application to the Tertiary Education Commission, known as a Self-analysis Report , to become registered as this country's first private university. On 6 and 7 September, we received the visit of the TEC's scrutiny panel to assess our application and compile a report.

As per the regulatory framework for tertiary education in Mauritius, a number of criteria have to be met for becoming a private university. The first step is, invariably, the submission of a Self-Analysis Report to the TEC spelling why the institution applying should be considered for registration.

The next step is the applicant institution to be inspected by the TEC. A Scrutiny Panel is appointed to examine the application in detail. In our own case, the panel comprised Professor J. Manrakhan, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius , Professor M. Varghese, Senior Education Consultant, National Accreditation and Assessment Council of India and former Vice-Chancellor of SNDT, India, Professor A. Peerally, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Mauritius , and Dr P. Mohadeb and Mr V.G. Ramnarain, Acting Executive Director and Acting Head, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Division of the TEC respectively. During the visit, the Panel held discussions with all stakeholders of CTI: Board of Directors, Management Committee, Academic Council, Academic Staff, Non-Academic Staff, Student Representatives and Alumni. The Panel also visited the library and other facilities of the Institute.

CTI Chronicles has learnt that the recommendations of the Scrutiny Panel should be made known by the end of September.
