Prof. Roussouw talking about "Value-Based Leadership"

Introduced to us by Mrs. Jane Valls, CEO of the Mauritius Institute of Directors, Prof. Deon Roussouw, CEO of Ethics Institute of South Africa, delivered a stimulating and authoritative talk on "Value-Based Leadership" on 19 October 2010 to CTI students and academic staff.

After considering the challenges of value-based leadership in organizations, Prof Roussouw offered concrete and practical steps for successful value-based management. Amongst others, he suggested that

  • The organization should identify, as honestly as possible, clear organizational values which will support the introduction of a value-based leadership
  • Management needs to communicate to and debate these values with a wide variety of employees
  • Management needs to be prepared to act as role models and take action when a crisis erupts which indicates that these values have been infringed
  • The relevant funding must be set aside for the introduction of this process.
