Rotary Club Debate Competition

Krishna: a politician in the making

Around the theme "Tourism responding to the Challenge of Climate Change", our students faced the University of Mauritius and the Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School on Friday 22 September in a debate organized by the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes. The aim was to involve the Tertiary Education Institutions in discussing and proposing solutions to the problems of climate change.

The topics selected for the debate were:

  1. The Tourism Industry is unfairly being asked to respond to the challenge of climate change
  2. The Tourism Industry contributes to the causes of climate change
  3. It is a gross exaggeration to state that the Tourism Industry is solely responsible for climate change.

Rotary Club Debate Competition

Prizes and gifts always draw big smiles...

Students had to draw lots to speak for or against each topic and had 15 minutes to organize their arguments before presenting them in front of an audience of students and professionals, a task that was carried out with great ease. Commenting on the event, our students mentioned that they had found the quality of debate to be very high and the event in general, well organised.
