Launch of Prestigious Master of International Business 26 February 2009

Prof. Raj Lutchmeah with the Master of International Business students
After three years spent planning the moment, CTI launched the prestigious Master of International Business (MIB) of Curtin University of Technology on Thursday 26 February.
In his welcoming address to the first cohort of students, Professor Raj Lutchmeah, Head of the Faculty of Management and Finance and CTI Academic Coordinator of the programme, congratulated those present both on their choice and for getting accepted on the course. "This Master degree is the first post-graduate programme offered at CTI," said Raj Lutchmeah, "and as such is of particular relevance to you in view of the growing strength of the financial services and international business sectors in Mauritius. It is a particular honour for you to have been selected as Curtin's standards are very strict."
Raj Lutchmeah went on to emphasize how those enrolled would face a series of specific obstacles during the forthcoming, namely
- Having to cope with post-graduate study - generally a much more independent endeavour than undergraduate study
- The need to carefully juggle academic study alongside professional and personal commitments
- The need for hard work and commitment throughout the duration of the two-year course
He concluded that teaching will start on 2 March and the two units to be taught in the first trimester are Law (International Business) and International Marketing. The CTI lecturers for the first two units were introduced next and it was emphasized that Unit Three and Four would be run by Curtin staff only.
Paul Dawson, Manager for Offshore Programmes of the Curtin Business School International and Coordinator of the MIB at Curtin, went on next to apprise the students on the facilities and support extended to students for them to successfully complete the course. He shared experience accrued on running the MIB both at Curtin's main campus in Bentley and at its off-shore campuses.
The evening ended with the time table, unit outlines and other documents being circulated.
