'Be a Hairdresser for one Day' 30 September 2008

Hairdressers for a day...
For some, it is already a profession in which they are trying to manage to the best of their ability. For others, it was still a dream. Some 25 plus delegates turned up for the 'Be a Hairdresser for One Day Fun Competition' organized by CTI on Tuesday 30 September to disseminate information about the Hairdressing profession and test the aptitude of the participants.
The excitement was palpable when the delegates discovered the state-of-the-art salon sponsored by l'Oréal Professionnel in which two competitions were organized. The mannequins whose hair they had to style were displayed.
The first competition was to style the hair of "Jenny" for her 21st birthday party. Imagination went wild and accessories were generously used to produce a trendy, rather irreverent hairstyle, translating all the happiness, originality and rebellion of the age.
Things sobered up substantially for the second competition where they were required to do "Jessica's" hair for her swearing-in ceremony as the first woman Prime Minister of Mauritius.
The critical eye of one of our trainers, Ghalib (from Rahim Coiffure), took no time to detect the winners, though for the rest of us, making a choice in such a pool of creativity and talent would have been impossible.
The workshop and the advice of our trainer afforded all participants the opportunity to find out about the art of Cosmetology. To those who were able to join our School of Cosmetology as well as those who experimented with being a hairdresser for a day only, thank you.
