We are ten years old 1 December 2009
On 1 December 2009, the Charles Telfair Institute turned ten years old and took its first steps into the field of Tertiary Education in Mauritius. Our Alumni, as well as the public at large, will recall indeed the launch of the DCDM Business School on 1 December 1999 and its subsequent transformation into the Charles Telfair Institute (CTI).
The Institute represents a unique experience in the field of tertiary education. For the first time in the world, the almost entire private sector of a country has leagued together to launch an academic institution - not a mean feat even if the country is a small island.
CTI boasts today of 16 shareholders, 1 300 students, over 60 academic staff, and most importantly, 3 000 alumni. Its major academic partners, Curtin University and Challenger Institute of Technology (formerly Challenger TAFE), enjoy an unequalled reputation, not only in Western Australia where they are located, but internationally as well. With the help of these partners, renown for the excellence of their offshore programmes, CTI offers a range of courses internationally recognized and specially designed to respond to the needs of today's and tomorrow's workplace.
CTI's pursuit of excellence in education, its emphasis on quality through its association with reputed International institutions, has led to an inescapable fact: our students experience no difficulty in finding employment either with our shareholders or internationally. This emphasis on excellence has recently been recognized by the Mauritian government: the Institute has become the first and only private institution on the island to have been given the authorization to award its own certificates and diplomas.
CTI's future looks bright. With its modern, state-of-the-art campus being built in Telfair, Moka, the Institute will be in a position to expand and diversify its curriculum further while continuing to prepare its students for the 21st century. It will continue too to strengthen its ties with its academic partners and focus on attracting more foreign students. It is poised to become the first private university on the island. We are the pioneers. We started. We brought much innovation and leadership to the Tertiary Education Sector in Mauritius. We lead. And our dedicated team will continue to lead into the future.
