CTI granted awarding powers 10 February 2009

The Charles Telfair Institute has been given powers to award its own Certificates and Diplomas by the Tertiary Education Commission by virtue of the relevant legislation and as per the national framework for postsecondary education. It becomes thus the first private tertiary education institution in Mauritius to have been granted these powers.
The grant of awarding powers to the Charles Telfair Institute is the culmination of extensive preparatory work by the Institute which started in 2003 and which included the submission of a Self-Analysis Report to the TEC and a site visit by an International Scrutiny Panel.
These powers represent a major step forward for the Institute which ambitions to become this country's first private university renowned for the quality of its teaching, learning, innovation and research.
The Charles Telfair Institute has a unique profile in that, for the first time in the world, a country's almost entire private sector has leagued together to launch a tertiary academic institution. The shareholders of the Institute are: CIEL Corporate Services Ltd, Constance Group Ltd, DCDM Co Ltd, Fondation Joseph Lagesse, Food & Allied Group of Companies, Food Canners Ltd, Harel Frères Ltd, Ireland Blyth Limited, Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd, The Medine Sugar Estates Co. Ltd, Mon Désert Alma Limited, Mon Trésor Mon Désert Ltd, Promotion & Development Co Ltd, Rogers & Company Limited and State Bank of India (Mauritius) Ltd.
Charles Telfair Institute currently enrolls some 1400 students and employs 60 academics on a full- and part-time basis. Its main academic partners are the two well-known Australian institutions, Curtin University of Technology and Challenger TAFE, both located in Perth. Through their intermediary, CTI offers a diverse range of internationally-recognized academic programmes ranging from degrees to diplomas and certificates.
