Following recognition in May 2009 of the Charles Telfair Institute as a Partner in Learning of the ICAEW and its preferred partner in Mauritius, Mauritian students wanting to become Chartered Accountants can now study for the prestigious ACA qualification of the internationally renowned Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) right here at CTI.

Introduction to ICAEW's Authorised Training Employers by Mr. Jonathan Worrell

Mr. Jonathan Worrell, Business Development Manager of the ICAEW, contributed significantly in the process not only from the ICAEW' s end but also in Mauritius by introducing CTI to ICAEW's Authorised Training Employers (ATE's) who are essentially the big Chartered accountancy firms.

At a launching ceremony attended by representatives of all the big and most of the medium-sized accountancy firms and key organizations, chartered accountants and potential ACA students and their parents, Mr Jonathan Worrell flagged the ACA qualification as the leading business and finance qualification in the world with a presence in no fewer than 166 countries. "It opens the door to a myriad of careers in any business, accountancy practice, or government organization and is guaranteed to bring you both status and prestige," emphasized Mr Worrell. He added that the qualification can be studied in very few selected countries outside of the UK and that Mauritius is the only country to run the ACA course on the African continent.

In his address, Mr. Patrick Ng Tseung, President of the Society Chartered Accountancy Society of Mauritius and Partner at Ernst & Young, congratulated the Charles Telfair Institute for taking the initiative of offering the ACA course and extended the full support of the Society in its endeavour. Sharing his personal experience, Mr Ng Tseung mentioned how satisfied he is with his career path and progress for having chosen to do the ACA training after obtaining his first degree in Chemistry.
