This TAFE course is especially designed for those who are working or intending to work within the children's services industry. It provides a useful introduction into understanding, caring for and supporting the development of young children.

With the practical training you will receive during this course, you can look forward to a rewarding career as a day-care, crèche, pre-school or nursery school assistant or a holiday kiddies' club supervisor.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course aims to give you knowledge and skills to provide care to children, facilitate their leisure & play and enable them to achieve their developmental outcomes. The areas covered in this course include:
- Child development
- Health and safety
- Hygiene practices
- Nutrition
- Caring for babies and children
The course focuses on acquisition of workplace knowledge and skills and is assessed through the competency/outcome-based approach: written tests, practical demonstrations, authentic or simulated projects, portfolios, work placement, etc. Assessment exercises are administered throughout the course. There are no examinations.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The minimum entry requirement is O-level with passes in at least four subjects, including English.
Mature age person who do not have a formal leaving certificate, could however be eligible to undertake the training programme provided that they have had some work experience in the field of children services. Applicants of such mature students are assessed on an individual basis and may require production of a workplace portfolio of skills evidence.
