Governance and Management
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors made up of persons nominated by the shareholders and the Executive Director constitutes the Executive Body of the Charles Telfair Institute. The representatives of the Shareholders are all "captains of industry".
The Board of Directors has the following functions:
- To ensure funding/seek funds/approve the budget/advise on investments
- To formulate strategies and establish networks to ensure market penetration
- To oversee major developments
- To formulate major policies
- To ensure good governance in all operations
Management
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer and the Principal Academic and Administrative Officer, and has overall responsibility for all operational, strategic development and supervisory matters of the Charles Telfair Institute. He is supported in these functions by the following senior staff members:
- The Director of Academic Affairs
- The Director for Strategic Development
- The Head of Faculty of Accounting & Finance
- The Head of Faculty of Management
- The Head of Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology
- The Head of Faculty of Humanities
- The Academic Registrar
- The Finance Registrar
- The Marketing Manager
The above Directors and Managers form part of the Management Committee.
Academic Council
The Executive Director is the Chairperson of the Academic Council which comprises two representatives of the Board of Directors, the Director of Academic Affairs, the Heads of Faculties and one or more student representatives.
The functions of the Academic Council are to:
- Be the principal academic body of the Charles Telfair Institute
- Have control on all academic matters
- Be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of academic standards
- Assure that the requirements of the TEC and Mauritius Qualifications Authority are met
Faculty Boards
The Heads of Faculties are the Chairpersons of the Faculty Board which comprises all academic staff of the concerned Faculty and a student representative of the Faculty.
The functions of the Faculty Board are to:
- Coordinate the teaching and learning, and assessment activities in the Faculty
- Promote research within the Faculty
- Recommend to the Academic Council schemes of enhancement of standards, programme review, new programmes, etc.
- Facilitate communication with other Faculties, students & staff of the Faculty and the Academic Council.
